AUGUST 2006 - ZONE ONLINE
The Australian National Zone Titles started Saturday July 29th 2006 and finished on Friday August 4th. The venue....Zone 3 Campbelltown on the outskirts of Sydney in New South Wales.
Those that went to represent Western Australia are shown in the photo to the right. Stormcrow (Gav), Ronin411 (Doug), Priest (Scott), Slimey (Simon), Harliquin (Andrew), Pakman (Jase) and in the front Wombat (Michael). This photo was taken at the Presentation dinner which was held at the local Leagues Club.
The WA Team ranked 9th out of 18 attending Teams. We finished up on Thursday in 6th position but lost our first Ascension game in the finals and this dropped us to 9th. Third place went to Sunshine Coast, 2nd to Hobart and first place went to the home site, Campbelltown A Team.
It is a long, intense week of Zone, starting the weekend with training on the Saturday and Solos Saturday Evening. Then Solos Finals, Doubles and Triples all on Sunday and the main event, Teams starting on the Monday. Round robin went from Monday Morning until late Monday Night, with the last six games on Tuesday Morning. Then Cascade rounds ran from Tuesday 'til Thursday, with the Ladies and Masters Competitions on Thursday Night. Then early Friday Morning the finals for the Team event started and played out until mid afternoon. The dinner took place on Friday evening at the Leagues club but for some, like Wraith from Boxhill, in the photo to the left, it was just too much.
The National Titles began back in 1999 and were played in 1999 and 2000 at the Boxhill Site in Victoria. Then it has moved each year, Sunshine Coast in 2001, Canberra in 2002, Hobart in 2003, Northbridge in 2004, Rockhampton in 2005 and Campbelltwon in 2006. Next year we'll be heading to Bendigo, Victoria (about 2 hours out of Melbourne).
The Bendigo site has Laser Games, Go-Karts, Pool Tables, Arcade Games, Outdoor Volleyball Sand Court, Mini-golf, Rollerskating and more. It will be a fantastic National Titles and one not to miss. Plans for the WA Teams have already begun so if you are keen to join in the fun next year ask Harliquin, Wombat or Slimey to add you to the WA NATS TEAMS section on our forum.
We are currently half way through our League Seasons with 11 teams at Northbridge and 9 teams at Willetton. It's too late to enter a team now for League but get yourselves organised because the new season starts in the first week of October. There will be a practice night on the 25th September 2006 at Northbridge and 27th at Willetton
So if you're keen to join a team or enter your own team get registered with either Wombat or Slimey and we'll remind you closer to next season that it's about to start.
